Dubrovnik

Where Game of Thrones comes to life

You won’t find the country of Westeros on a map, or King’s Landing. But fans of wildly popular television series Game of Thrones know King’s Landing as the capital of the Seven Kingdoms realm, where the show’s most memorable scenes were filmed. Thankfully, because the HBO epic isn’t entirely a computer-generated illusion, devotees of the George R. R. Martin stories can tour the real-life streets of King’s Landing in the form of Dubrovnik, Croatia.

AutoVenture provides the perfect, private tour tailored to Game of Thrones fans, against the gorgeous backdrop of this majestic, Old World seaport.

Known as the Pearl of the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik has managed to preserve much of its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. Founded in the seventh century, the city is regarded as one of the best-preserved medieval walled cities in the world.

Dubrovnik provides the perfect setting for the show with its fortified battlements, huge gates, drawbridges, monuments and buildings. You’ll stand on the bloodied ground where a litany of butchery, debauchery and betrayal was filmed. To jog your memory, your AutoVenture guide will share rich anecdotes about the series and will have large photos to recall the show’s highlights. Your guide will point to where Belvedere Atrium, “the Mountain,” squeezed Prince Oberyn's head like a grape in a duel to the death. You’ll tour Gradac Park, a pine tree-filled site where the Purple Wedding party was filmed, and enjoy a glorious sunset.

Additional Game of Thrones highlights include the Minceta Tower, Dubrovnik’s highest fort, known in the show as the House of the Undying. At the Pile Gate, you’ll laugh recalling how King Joffrey’s rioting subjects pelted him with dung. Plus, you’ll enjoy a gorgeous hike to the top of Lovrijenac Fortress, where its ramparts provide a gorgeous panorama of the city and glimmering sea.

For those unfamiliar with Dubrovnik, an AutoVenture guided tour is the surest way of getting closest to the culture, and of capturing an unforgettable land.
