Day 3 - Langjokull

Start the day with this classic drive to Thingvellir, a National Park and site of the World’s oldest parliament. Thingvellir National park is on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004. The entrance to Thingvellir is a walk through the Almannagja gorge, visible evidence of plate tectonic activity on the European-American fault-line which still today is pushing the two continents apart and creating Iceland, geology’s youngest country. Onwards to serene Lake Laugarvatn and thundering rainbow-ringed Gullfoss, the golden waterfall. From Gullfoss we drive into the thermal landscape around iconic Geysir with the erupting hot springs. You will catch glimpses of the mighty Langjokull glacier and also have the option of a snowmobiling, river-rafting or quad-biking (not included in the tour price).  Finally on to the stunning blue-green lake in the volcanic basalt crater of Kerid. Lodging: TBA

Day 4 - Landmannalaugar

Hrauneyjar lies at the center of the forbidding highlands and our route takes us first through the Thjrrsadalur Valley stopping at Hjalparfoss, one of Iceland’s loveliest waterfalls, before continuing into the extraordinary mountain-scape to the water-filled Ljotipollur crater and the hot springs of the Landmannalaugar oasis. This is your opportunity to bathe in the natural hot waters or join a short guided hike before heading for active Mount Hekla, the queen of Icelandic volcanoes. Weather and geological conditions allowing we will drive to a height of 3100 feet up the side of the volcano to capture the astounding views. Lodging: TBA

We continue inland to two waterfalls, the graceful Seljalandsfoss, where the sure-footed can walk behind the cascade, and impressive Skógarfoss. Skógarfoss carries water from two powerful glaciers, Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull which dominate the slopes of the active volcano Mount Katla. Weather and volcanic conditions permitting, you will have the opportunity to experience snowmobiling, dog-sledding, a guided glacial hike or riding Icelandic horses. Once back in Reykjavik the adventure ends, but memories from the land of fire and ice will be forever yours.
