T'is the Season

With another Oktoberfest put to bed for the year, winter is a delicious time to take a southern swing through Germany on AutoVenture’s Romantic Road tour.

Not only does off-peak season travel allow you unfettered access to the region’s museums, castles, and shops, it’s also when Germany’s heralded Christmas markets sparkle throughout the land. Plus, with your private, AutoVenture guide, you’ll be closer to the culture with inside information on the best places to visit, dine and shop.

Start with Frankfurt's Christmas market, which is acclaimed as Germany’s oldest (1393), largest and most spectacular. More than 200 stalls are spread about the fairgrounds, which are anchored by a 98-foot Christmas tree. Throw in concerts, trumpets and carolers, and you have a very festive party.

Heidelberg’s Christmas market is spread out across the city’s old quarter. You’ll browse the shimmering stalls in the courtyard of Heidelberg's famous castle and enjoy lively music on the Christmas on Ice ice rink on Karlsplatz Square.

Munich’s Christmas market in the Marienplatz is known for its traditional approach. Live music rings out daily from the town hall’s balcony, children don shimmering robes and golden wings to become little angels. There’s always time to enjoy a stein of the world’s finest beer.

Your German holiday adventure will end back in Frankfurt, where you can scoop up some festive gifts from the log cabin situated beneath its market's massive Christmas tree. Who wouldn’t be tickled to receive a Frankfurt-style tree ornament, or a popular glühwein mug?

AutoVenture will provide you with a cherished “Froehliche Weihnachten” that you won’t soon forget!

For those unfamiliar with Germany, an AutoVenture guided tour is the surest way of getting closest to the culture, and of capturing an unforgettable land.
