Full Day Rhine Valley The winding bends of the Lower Rhine are framed by castle crowned hillsides, and are the main attraction of this 8 hour excursion. After leaving Frankfurt, the first stop is Rudesheim, where crooked streets of quaint country homes are interspersed with ruined castle towers. Above the town is the Niederwalddenkmal, a towering 19th century monument commemorating German unification. Continuing down the river to Sankt Goar, you will encounter the ruins of Rheinfels Castle. Once the largest fortification on the Rhine, it was reduced to a ruin one-fifth its original size during the fighting of the French Revolutionary Wars.
