Full Day Chamonix & Mer de Glace

Although not as famous for mountaintop adventuring as other Swiss cities, Geneva offers an interesting alternative in the nearby French Alps. On this 8 hour day trip, make a short journey to Chamonix and the slopes of Mont Blanc. Follow the icy waters of the River Arve out of Geneva, winding through the countryside and over the French border, to reach the Chamonix. A winter sports paradise to rival any in Europe, the town hosted the inaugural Winter Olympic Games. Ascending into the mountain aboard the Montenvers railway, reach a lookout over the Mer de Glace, French for “sea of ice.” A massive glacier, the sweeping fields of crevasses and snowbanks feed the rivers below, and fill almost the entire valley between peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif. Afterwards, return to Geneva through the quiet resort town of La Fayet.

The first, built in 1333, is the Chapel Bridge, adorned with scenes from the town’s history.
