Half Day CityKnown throughout the west as the setting for Bogart and Berman’s 1942 masterpiece, the bustling seaport of Casablanca is one of the gems of the Muslim world. On this 4 hour tour, see the highlights that make the city famous in its own right. Begin the tour at Place des Nations Unies, the city’s largest public square. Full of cafes and street performers, it also forms the bridge between the modern city and the historic old town, or medina. On the other side of the medina, explore the beaches and resorts of Ain Diab, on the Atlantic Coast. Next, be awed by the truly monumental Hassan II Mosque. The largest mosque in Africa, with the tallest minaret in the world, the Hassan II’s grand physical appearance is topped only by its scenic location on a rocky outcrop at the edge of the ocean. Finish the day with a drive through the streets of Morocco’s business capital, and visits to historic sites from the Jewish quarter and French colonial period. 4 hrs |

Full Day to RabatAlthough Casablanca is the region’s largest city and its financial hub, Morocco’s capital lies up the coast at the city of Rabat. A perfect 8 hour day trip, Rabat boasts the sights and splendor of Morocco’s royal court. Originally founded to become the capital in the 12th century, it was only in 1912 that it achieved this status. The result is a unique cityscape featuring designs of royal grandeur centuries apart. First, visit the ruins of the Hassan Tower and Grand Mosque. A red sandstone monolith, the tower rises to an impressive 140 feet, only half its intended height. At its feet is an expansive plaza populated by neat rows of stone columns. At the other end of the complex is the tomb of Mohammed V and his son Hassan II, Morocco’s kings during the 20th century responsible for building the nation. Next is the Archeological Museum, where the collections bring to life the region’s prehistoric, Roman, and Islamic legacies. Finally, visit the Dar al-Makhzen palace, the modern residence of the royal family. 8 hrs |

Half Day Grand TourBecome immersed in an almost fantastical landscape of winding, narrow streets and ornate Islamic architecture on this 4 hour tour of Morocco’s medieval capital. The most iconic sights of Fes lie in its medina, or old town. Purported to be the world’s largest car-free area, the medina sprawls across a shallow valley, with landmark mosques rising above the crowded rooftops. The first major stop is the Bou Inania Madrasa, where stunning calligraphy and geometric decoration cover the walls and arches. Next is the al-Karaouine University, perhaps the oldest institution of higher learning in the world. Another spectacularly decorated complex, it includes one of the largest mosques in Africa, and its appearance represents over a millennium of continuous construction. Other sights in the medina include its many traditional shops, and its famous leather tanneries. 4 hrs |

Full Day Meknes, Volubillis, Moulay IdrissMeknes, one of Morocco’s historic capitals, is merely the start of this 8 hour excursion through the region’s living history. The city came into its own in the 17th century, when it was chosen by Moulay Ismail Ibn Sharif, one of the country’s most celebrated and powerful rulers, as the site of his palace. Explore the complex through the Bab Mansour gate, the largest in the city and spectacularly decorated. Within the palace are seemingly endless gardens, as well as a reservoir. Ismail’s tomb is one of the few Moroccan mosques open to non-Muslims, and features spectacular mosaic and tile-work. Outside of Meknes, climb into the hills to the small town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, where Idriss I became Morocco’s founding monarch and brought Islam to the region. His burial site is one of the holiest in Morocco. Finally, visit the ruins of Volubilis, the southwestern outpost of the Roman Empire. The expansive city houses the remains of several monumental buildings, including baths and a triumphal arch. 8 hrs |

Half Day CityExplore both crowded streets and tranquil gardens with this 4 hour tour of the Marrakech Medina. Begin with the Koutoubia Mosque, where the red sandstone minaret towers above the city. Next, enter into the Souks, a labyrinth of hunched storefronts. Goods ranging from traditional Berber clothing to mounds of spices to exotic jewelry and metalwork can be found in its myriad stalls. The winding paths eventually empty onto the Djmaa el Fna, the city’s largest public space. An open oasis amongst the crowded buildings, its paved expanse offers little respite from the crowds. Merchants selling fresh squeezed juices by day and hot food at night abound, as do snake charmers, local artisans, and exotic street performers. Outside the central area, visit the city’s royal palaces. The 16th century El Badi palace is mostly in ruins, but still shows the dimensions of its former excess. The 19th century Bahia palace, however, offers a stunning ensemble of decorative architecture from throughout Islamic tradition. Finally, visit the Saadian Tombs, where one of Morocco’s historic dynasties rests in grandeur. 4 hrs |

Full Day High Atlas Mountains/OuarzazateEmbark on a trek into the Moroccan countryside with this 12 hour excursion through the wonders of the Atlas Mountains. From Marrakech, head eastward to the village of Ait Ourir at the feet of the snow-capped mountain range. The journey then continues south towards the red clay citadel of Telouet, former home to the region’s feudal lords. The next major stop is at the city of Ait Benhaddou. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient city rises from the hillside in a cascade of clay and brick towers. Over 50 residences make up what used to be a critical stop for caravans traversing the Sahara. Mostly, but not entirely, abandoned by its traditional inhabitants, it remains a popular destination for tourists, as well as major film studios. Finally, reach the city of Ouarzazate, on the historic border between mountain and desert. Known as the gateway to the Sahara, this otherwise sleepy caravan stop has flourished since the middle of the 20th century. First expanded by the French as a military outpost, is many scenic vistas and ruined kasbahs have made it a hotbed of cinematic activity, both foreign and domestic. 12 hrs |
