Half Day Old DelhiNow the capital of modern India, Delhi’s roots were laid as the capital of the powerful Mughal Empire. Nowhere is this legacy more apparent, and impressive, than in the old city, the focus of this 4 hour tour. Begin at the Red Fort, a walled city built by Shah Jahan, the most prolific patron of the Mughal period, whose projects include the Taj Mahal. Within the red sandstone walls are a series of gardens, palaces, and mosques, of which the Moti Majid, or Pearl Mosque is the most spectacular. A white marble building, it is one of the few remaining in its original glory. Outside the fort is the vibrant, if chaotic, atmosphere of the Chandni Chowk market district. Goods of all types can be found in its shops and stalls, while the frenetic pace of life is an attraction unto itself. Finish the tour at the Raj Ghat, a riverside park where the cremation spots of Mahatma Ghandi and Jawaharlal Nehru honor the legacy of India’s independence. 4 hrs |

Full Day Agra/Taj MahalOne of the most famous and recognizable buildings worldwide, the Taj Mahal is part of every traveler’s wish list. Experience the pinnacle of Muslim architecture in India on this 8 hour day trip from Delhi. Shah Jahan, one of India’s most celebrated rulers and artistic patrons, ordered the construction of the mausoleum to serve as the resting place of his favorite wife. Built from 1632 to 1653, the Shah oversaw its construction, ornamenting its white marble walls with masterful inlays of gems and semiprecious stone. Below its majestic domes are some of the finest artisan stone work in the world. After visiting the riverside complex’s fantastic gardens, visit the Agra Fort, a red sandstone complex that hosted Mughal rulers. Finish with Fatehpur Sikri, an abandoned but brilliantly intact palace complex. Built by early Mughal rulers but abandoned almost immediately in the wake of political turmoil, it is a marvelous ghost town of untouched imperial splendor. 8 hrs |
