Full Day Castles & North SealandAlthough most travelers to Denmark focus their attention on Copenhagen, the surrounding countryside on the island of Sealand is full of natural beauty and intriguing attractions. On this 8 hour day trip from Copenhagen, visit the castles of Fredriksborg and Kronborg, all the while enjoying serene beech forests and quaint, picturesque Scandinavian villages. Kronborg is interesting both in its own history and the fiction it inspired. Built as a castle in the early 15th century, it was remade into a Renaissance fortress by the 17th century. In the English speaking world, the castle has been immortalized as Elsinore, the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Fredriksborg, a red brick renaissance masterpiece, was built for the Kings of Denmark in the early 17th century. Rising directly from the waters of a country lake, the current palace features a large range of period decorations and artwork. 8 hrs |
