Half Day WestThe Berlin Wall may be long gone, but the unique identity of West Berlin lives on in the stops of this 4 hour sightseeing tour. The day begins with the Kurfurstendamm, a wide avenue lined with upscale shopping and center of public life in Cold War West Berlin. At the end of the promenade is the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, a broken spire left in ruins to memorialize the destruction of World War II. Continue to the suburbs to reach Charlottenburg Palace. A complex of gardens surrounds the fantastic Baroque structure, the last remaining palace of the German Imperial legacy. Heading back into central Berlin, you will pass by the towering Victory Column, a monument to the conquests of Otto von Bismarck. Next you will reach the Reichstag. Home to the Imperial German government, it was rebuilt to house that of reunified Germany in 1990. A short distance away is the symbol of Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate. The tour finishes at the Olympiastadion, home to the 1936 Olympic Games, as well as the 2006 World Cup Final. 4 hrs |

Half Day EastEast Berlin, former capital of communist East Germany, offers a fascinating balance of modern metropolis and 19th century royal capital. Explore both of these legacies on this 4 hour tour. First, visit Potsdam square. Towering above this neighborhood is Berlin’s cluster of high rise skyscrapers. Next is the Brandenburg Gate. The iconic symbol of Berlin, the gate stands at the border of the Cold War division, and separates the forested Tiergarten in the west and the urban center to the east. The Unter den Linden, Berlin’s most famous boulevard, stretches eastward from the gate. Along its tree-shaded sidewalks are international embassies, luxe car showrooms, and exquisitely reconstructed buildings housing the city’s museums. Finally, drive down Friedrichstrasse, a popular shopping street of modern architecture which bisects the Linden, and is home to Checkpoint Charlie, an important crossing between east and west during the separation. 4 hrs |

Full day PotsdamFeaturing both the regal prestige and wartime significance of Berlin, without the dense urban chaos, Potsdam makes for the perfect 8 hour day trip out of the capital. The first stop will be the Glienicke Bridge. By providing a connection between East Germany and West Berlin, this bridge became notorious for hosting spy exchanges between American and Soviet interests. Of all the palaces located in Potsdam, the Sanssouci is the most fabulous. The lavish Rococo villa is perched above vineyard gardens laid out over 7 levels of terraced promenade. The name comes from the French for “no worries,” as the Kings of Prussia used the complex to escape the pressures of ruling. The final stop is the Cecilienhof palace. Although modest compared to its neighbors, the complex is known for hosting the Potsdam Conference, where American, Soviet and British leaders met in 1945 to organize postwar Europe. 8 hrs |
